Snow Circles

img_7254The other day on a rather snowy walk with my dogs, I discovered circles scraped into the snow. It was early in the morning and, to be fair, I had not yet partaken of any caffeine so my brain was sluggish.  I stood open mouthed puzzling for some time. Who or what had made these marks and why were there no prints in the area around the concentric circles? Thinking that I had stumbled on some winter affected crop circle phenomenon I quietly walked on, ever cautious of where I put my feet.  After a few steps the wind suddenly offered up the answer; the tips of the grasses, bowed onto the ground, suddenly animated by the wind began to sketch faint lines into the snow.
